Locals are invited to the Linder Auditorium at the University of Witwatersrand in Parktown to witness a two-week programme of the return of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra Special Spring Concert.

The Johannesburg Philarmonic Orchestra (JPO) is thrilled to announce the return to live symphony concerts as they present the JPO Special Spring Concerts on October 28 and November 4.

JPO is a public benefit organisation that went into business rescue in 2012, but it relaunched in August 2017 with a new vision, a new brand identity, and a diverse board of directors made up of business leaders as well as credible community leaders.

In light of the relaxation of Covid regulations recently, the JPO can present live concerts. They have put together a programme showcasing internationally acclaimed artists as well as South Africans. The two-week programme will culminate in the return of popular conductor Daniel Boico for the first concert, along with award-winning pianist Georgy Tchaidze.

The second concert, under the baton of celebrated German conductor Justus Frantz, features South Korean soloist Ye-Eun Choi, one of the world’s most in-demand violinists.

“The musicians are excited to be performing live again and are in terrific form, playing with finesse and sophistication,” said Bongani Tembe, chief executive and artistic director of the JPO. Tembe added, “Even at the height of Covid related restrictions, the orchestra continued to stay in touch with the audience through Virtual Symphony Seasons and online at home with the JPO Series.

“This, coupled with our ongoing education concerts and videos, teaching at music schools and our hospital outreach programme cements the JPO’s commitment to bringing beautiful music to the City of Joburg.”

Seats for the JPO Special Spring Concerts are limited due to Covid-19 regulations, as it is mandatory for reduced capacity audiences to be allowed in the venue. To ensure the safety of residents, access to the venue will only be permitted with proof of vaccination or a negative polymerase chain reaction test not older than 72 hours.

All other Covid-19 protocols will be observed and residents are encouraged to arrive at least an hour before the concert begins.
