Bolt offers discounts to help voters to get to local government election polling stations

JOHANNESBURG — Voters can enter the promotional code ‘BoltVoteSafe’ into the promotions tab on the Bolt app, to qualify for the R30 per trip discount for two trips.

Bolt, the e-hailing service available across South Africa, is helping residents get to the polls on Municipal Elections day on November 1 by offering at least 20 000 passengers a discount of R30 on trips to and from their polling station.

Voters can enter the promotional code ‘BoltVoteSafe’ into the promotions tab on the Bolt app, to qualify for the R30 per trip discount for two trips.

“While polling stations are usually within easy reach for most voters, they are still far to walk to, particularly if the voter has a young child they are caring for, or if they are elderly,” said Gareth Taylor, regional manager for Bolt in Southern Africa.

“While other modes of transportation do not offer door-to-door rides, we would like to help South Africans who have limited options of getting to their local polling station, to be able to cast their vote in South Africa’s sixth municipal elections.

“Hailing a ride to get to your polling station and back again also means those who would ordinarily drive themselves to vote will not have to struggle for parking,” Taylor added.

Taylor emphasised that drivers would still earn their full fare for these discounted trips.

Voters who do not have the Bolt app loaded on their mobile phones can download it for free from their app store.
