Lucky crowned winner of Delta Backyard Ultra
BLAIRGOWRIE – After a tough 190km Lucky Miya was made winner in the Delta Backyard Ultra.
Lucky Miya completed the longest distance in the recent Delta Backyard Ultra, which drew crowds of running enthusiasts on October 23.
The rules of the race state that competitors must consecutively run a distance of 6 706 metres (a yard) in less than one hour. Once competitors finished their yard, they could then use the remaining time within the hour to recover and fuel for the next yard. This is done until there is one last finisher, which this year was Miya.
He duelled with Gary Cooper for a full 28 hours (roughly 190km). They started their journey at 7:00, and by 21:00 they were the last two participants standing. Both men exceeded their personal expectations Cooper and Miya both and previous longest distances run (Cooper, 100km and Miya, 117km).
Both runners went out on yard 28, but only Miya was able to complete the yard within the prescribed hour.
