Every year in October and November the streets of Johannesburg and Pretoria fill with purple blooms as thousands of beautiful jacaranda trees bloom in Gauteng’s two great cities.
The jacaranda spring is a natural spectacle that fills Gautengers with pride as the province shows off its spectacular beauty worthy of celebration.
In celebrating these magnificent blooms, residents are invited to enter the Johannesburg In Your Pocket City Guide’s #jacarandainyourpocket photo competition.
This jacaranda photography competition runs on Instagram until November 15. From hundreds of photos shared on Instagram, the images are then whittled down to 10 finalists whose photos are put out for a public vote to choose the winner and runners-up. The announcement will take place on @johannesburginyourpocket Instagram account on November 25.
The top three photos chosen by popular vote will win the entrants hotel breaks at Joburg’s Radisson Red Rosebank hotel, The Northcliff boutique hotel and Pablo House guesthouse, all offering unique views of Joburg’s trees. Voters for this year’s winners will also have a chance to win two unique Joburg experiences in a prize draw.
Johannesburg In Your Pocket publisher Laurice Taitz said, “We want people to feel proud of their cities, to walk the streets, to see them with fresh eyes, and to appreciate the incredible natural beauty around them. It’s only for locals. People travel to Tokyo for cherry blossoms. Why not travel between Joburg and Pretoria to see the jacarandas?”
