The Teddy Bear Foundation appeals for donations of wool

PARKTOWN – The Teddy Bear Clinic has asked for wool donations to support a dedicated group of knitters.

The Teddy Bear Clinic has appealed to the community for donations of wool, to assist a group of dedicated knitters who supply the facility with blankets and teddy bears.

One of these sponsors, Anne-Marie Moore, will be honoured by The Teddy Bear Foundation, together with Joburg Ballet, on October 7 when she celebrates her 75th birthday.

“These are more than just blankets and teddies they provide for us,” said Teddy Bear Clinic’s donor liaison officer Dalene Bishop. She added that the blankets and teddies are given to children who passed through the clinic’s doors. These are children who have been abused or mistreated and are in need of a gesture of love and warmth.

“When a child who has been abused comes through our doors, the therapist encourages them to choose their own blanket. This is very special for the children as they can choose a blanket which they like, and the actual warmth of the blanket, and care taken into creating it, brings comfort to the child at a time when warmth and tender love is most needed.”

She said the group of knitters of which Moore was a member, recently donated almost blankets to The Teddy Bear Clinic, and the wool was needed to continue to do the good work that they did.
