Pirates cricket get ready for the season

GREENSIDE – With the quality of the coaching and the structures that have been put in place, Pirates is set up for current and, most importantly, long-term success.

After a tough and challenging build-up to the 2021/22 cricket season, Pirates Club has made some exciting moves to ensure a progressive and successful year ahead.

With the inclusion of a few more personnel and a shuffle of the committee, Pirates cricket is excited to announce they have added a second coach to bolster the senior set-up. Keagan Moore has joined as the assistant coach to Kerran St Clair.

The competition has been fierce at the bi-weekly practice sessions, and its been said the level of talent at the club will no doubt create selection dilemmas for the coaches.

Club captain, Matt Hardy explained that with the quality of the coaching and the structures that have been put in place, Pirates is set up for current and, most importantly, long-term success. “We strongly believe the first team has the ability to win the Prem B league and earn promotion into Prem A, the pinnacle of club cricket. We also have high aspirations for the second and third XI’s to push for promotion to higher leagues as well.”

Other additions to the committee include Aamir Samaai who will head up social media, keeping all Pirates supporters and the community updated. Fundraising and sponsorship will be headed up by Chad Roberts. “Both members have proved wonderful additions with great coverage of the club across various social media platforms and some exciting events already in the pipeline,” said Hardy.

Pirates also teamed up with Connect Fibre and Egrek Cinema as current sponsors. They look forward to a successful partnership in the season ahead and everyone should be on the lookout for some very exciting events on the horizon.

The junior section, which covers youngsters from U7 to U13 years level, is said to be thriving under guidance of Nick Persse. “Practices take place on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. The section currently hosts around 50 enthusiastic children and the club expect these numbers to climb once the winter sports complete their respective seasons,” said Hardy.

During the 2020/21 season, the juniors were able to maintain coaching and enter some teams into tournaments throughout the winter with many more events planned for the summer ahead.
