SafeParks and Cortac collaborate to equip domestic workers with safety tips

PARKTOWN NORTH – Parksec and Cortac put together a session to give workers tips on how to defend themselves.

SafeParks in collaboration with security company Cortac, organised their first training session of domestic workers since the beginning of Covid-19.

All employees who work for residents in Parkhurst and Parktown North were invited, regardless of whether their employers were Cortac or non-Cortac clients.

SafeParks believes in involving and including the community in their fight against crime and one of the strategic ways of doing so is training employees who work at residents’ homes and therefore spend so much time there. The training was held at Godfirst Church in Parktown North.

More than 100 domestic workers attended the morning session and Cortac officers educated them on security tips and what to look out for and what to do in a crime situation. “One of the most proactive ways in combatting crime in an area is involving the community and educating all on crime trends and what to look out for,” said Lynn Rushton of SafeParks.

Upon completion, participants received certificates of participation.
