‘Power supply has been since restored and Johannesburg’s systems are stable’ – Joburg Water

JOBURG – Johannesburg Water says that power supply and water systems are stable after veld fire.

Johannesburg Water declares their systems stable following veld fire.

Johannesburg Water announced that their systems are stable following a veld fire which broke out on September 26 under Eskom’s Snowden high-voltage substation supply line.

The veld fire severely affected Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch Water Treatment Works which feed to numerous Johannesburg Water reservoirs and towers.

Joburg Water’s spokesperson Eleanor Mavimbela said in a statement that with Level-1 water restrictions already implemented by Rand Water, Johannesburg Water may implement further restrictions should the need arise. This will impact customers in higher lying areas with low pressure or no water supply.

“We urge customers to reduce water consumption during this critical time,” said Mavimbela.

Under level-1 restrictions, watering of gardens is not allowed between 06:00 until 18:00 in summer months. Residents are also not allowed to wash driveways and paved areas using hosepipes during this time.

Joburg Water gave citizens the following water-saving tips:

Consumers are urged to report non-compliance to the JMPD’s 24-hour hotline on 011 758 9650.
