Bramley Police arrest woman (21) for alleged firearm theft

KEW – The Bramley police recently arrested the girlfriend of a complainant for allegedly stealing his gun from his safe.

A woman (21) has been arrested by detectives from the Bramley Police Station, following allegations of firearm theft in Kew.

Spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi said it was alleged that the owner of the stolen firearm had found the safe in his home empty, and his gun missing, on the morning of Saturday, September 11.

This, after he had asked his girlfriend if she had knowledge of where his safe key was, when he could not find the key.

“He had come back from work and asked her if she could find the key, noticing it was missing,” said Mogodi.
“After denying knowledge of the key, she had then said she was taking her child to a doctor, and left.”

He said the complainant had then broken open his safe, to find the gun was no longer there. He subsequently went to the Bramley police to report the matter.

Mogodi said following preliminary investigations by members of the Bramley police detective unit, the woman was arrested. “The investigation indicated that at the time of the woman’s arrest, the firearm had already been sold to someone in town,” he continued.

Through the information, the team of detectives traced and recovered the firearm in downtown Johannesburg. It had been thrown into a bin. Police are investigating.
