Covid-19 has not been kind to many industries, this includes the fashion industry.
Designer and curator of the upcoming Midwest Fashion Week event, Connexions, Odysseus Shirindza said it’s time to bring back the excitement of fashion.
The event will be held at Gallery Momo, in Parktown North on September 25 and the community can follow the event and see stunning images by using the following social media handles: #MFWCONNEXIONS_JHB, #MFW, or @officialmidwestfashionweek.
At the event, Shirindza will exhibit his Arnreuby collection along with other designers, including Carol Bouwer, Berny Martin, Nokwanda Ngcobo, Reggi Xaba, Heather Marie Designs and Inga Gubeka.
The showcase aims to revive the world of fashion, to allow designers to showcase their unique work and encourage audiences. Shirindza believed fashion was an indicator of our times and could inspire ‘newness’. “We are always looking for newness,” he said.
He explained that this was particularly relevant during the pandemic, in which the colour and life of fashion needed to be revived in communities.
He added that it was the ability of fashion to define the times which inspired him to immerse himself in the world of fashion. He always wanted to be a designer. “After high school, I went to Durban where I studied and qualified as a designer. I have been lucky to have met some really amazing people in my journey: Malcolm Kluck, Gavin Rajah, Terrence Bray and the late Paul Botha of the label Ruff Tung. They have had a great impact on my career.”
He said people would be able to follow his fashion pages soon, as he would be launching them after Connexions.
