Rosebank takes centrestage

ROSEBANK – While Covid-19 might have dealt a heavy blow to Rosebank, officials of the Rosebank Management District (RMD) are positive that the area will see recovery if all relevant parties stand together.

“Rosebank is for everyone,” Rosebank Management District precinct manager Lerato Khiba told the Gazette, explaining this was the reason she so loved the area.

“It is also one of the few areas which seamlessly combines residential and business components.”

Lerato said she became involved with the RMD when it was advertised the precinct required a vibrant person to align with the district’s vision. “Essentially, my job is to ensure the neighbourhood remains in shape and functions as expected! I want the area to become a reference point for many Joburg neighbourhoods.”

She said two issues she would like to see changed in the area included a solution to the existing challenge of a holding bay for mini-bus taxis, e-hailing and food delivery services. “These are key role players in the node and their services are much-needed.”
Also, increased intervention from South African Police Service (SAPS) and Johannesburg Metropolitan Policing Department (JMPD) to tackle crime-related issues. “Our greatest challenge has been trying to eradicate dagga dealing on Keyes Avenue.”

She said if anything, Covid-19 had not been kind to residents and to the area at large. “It has been unpleasant to watch businesses shut down as a result of the pandemic, and people losing their jobs but I’ve also observed other businesses stepping up to help.”

She said pandemic conditions had taught her and the RMD team the importance of partnerships and of sticking together for survival, especially, in a growing economy like South Africa. She said the recent Rosebank Walkabout was a huge success, which had received great feedback, and she believed in future, would broaden the RMD’s horizons.

“RMD had the opportunity to engage municipal-owned entities and the business community on the significance of private-public partnerships, to tackle the challenges of the growing district of Rosebank and advance its good causes.

“The event also allowed RMD to raise its and Rosebank’s profile as a growing metropolitan node that continues to attract billion’s worth of investments. It was also critical for RMD to emphasise its position in Rosebank as a City Improvement District which provides supplementary services to the services provided by the City.”

The Rosebank Management District is managed by Excellerate Management Services.
