Two arrested in Greenside for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle

PARKVIEW – Parkview police made an arrest when they noticed a car's registration details did not correspond with official computer records.

Parkview police arrested two men aged 22 and 24 in Greenside on August 18 for being in the possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
The arrests were made on the corner of Barry Hertzog Drive and Troon Road.

Parkview police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said the police had been patrolling at about 10:00 when they stopped a gold Volkswagen Jetta. She added that upon checking the registration with radio control, it was ascertained that the ‘vehicle did not exist’ on computer systems.

“Police then investigated further and discovered the registration did not correspond with the vehicle identification number [VIN] and the engine number.”

She said both suspects were subsequently arrested and would appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on the charge of being in the possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Parkview Police Station Commander Colonel Theledi Gopane commended the officers for apprehending the suspects and said this demonstrated their commitment to addressing the causes of crime and bringing perpetrators to justice.
