NORWOOD – Community members are encouraged to report any criminal activity to Crime Stop on 086 001 0111 or call Norwood SAPS on 011 483 4600/09/14.

A man has been convicted to three months’ imprisonment or a R5 000 fine for domestic violence and grievous bodily injury on July 21.

Spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said the suspect, Luri Guedes, was found guilty on both charges.

Masotsha explained that on November 23 last year at 17:00, a victim reported to police an incident of domestic violence and assault grievous bodily injury.

“The matter was thoroughly investigated by one of our specialist investigators, Detective Sergeant Hlakane Zacharia Tsholo, until the suspect was convicted,” said Masotsha.

He said that the victim alleged that Guedes told her that she would be sent back to her parents in a freezer bag (coffin). All the incidents of abuse took place in front of her 14-month-old daughter.

Masotsha said he hopes that the sentence will teach other members of the community to stop women abuse, otherwise they will face the full might of the law.

Community members are encouraged to report any criminal activity to Crime Stop on 086 001 0111 or call Norwood SAPS on 011 483 4600/09/14.
