Parkview Residents Association teams up with community members to revamp George Hay Park

PARKVIEW – The Parkview Residents Association teams up with locals to revamp George Hay Park.

The Parkview Residents’ Association (PRA) has put a lot of time, money and effort this year into cleaning up, fixing and adding to their local community park, George Hay Park.

They recently put in a new water fountain and replaced all the AstroTurf around the playing equipment. Repairs were done to the sidewalks and fencing, as well as new trees planted.

The general upkeep and maintenance of the park is spearheaded by Parkview resident Mientjie van der Merwe and her right-hand man Onias Khumalo. At the start of 2021, the PRA also purchased a brand new Ride-on mower that allowed them to keep the park well manicured and always looking neat.

One of the local Parkview families, who frequent the park often, noticed that the toilets in the park required some much-needed maintenance.

The Brits family, whose company Evolve Habitats specialises in doing home renovations, didn’t waste any time, but set to work fixing the toilets. The bathrooms are looking fantastic and are freshly painted, newly plastered, with new mirrors and new ceilings.

The Brits family also replaced the missing taps, toilet seats and door handles, fixed the missing tiles, as well as installing new water troughs for the basins. George Hay Park now has a fully functional paraplegic toilet and a filled-in walkway for wheelchairs to have easier access.

Nick Brits also called on Mac Mac Guttering to join the project and they replaced all the broken gutters with brand new ones.

The PRA and Parkview Community as a whole take great pride in their local park which is very much the heart of the suburb and expressed their sincere thanks to The Brits family and Mac Mac Guttering for their generous contribution to the Parkview suburb.
