Here are some places to visit with loved ones, for a safe outing:

The Wilds, Houghton

Walkers can enjoy pristine views of Joburg from this stunning hill or koppie.

Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, Emmarentia

This pristine area of open ground is more than 100 hectares and allows for long walks of undisturbed tranquility.

Where: Between Beyers Naude and Barry Hertzog drives, Emmarentia.

Delta Park, Blairgowrie

This is a beautiful park which has an environmental centre as a central focus. It also has a bird sanctuary and Scout grounds.

Where: Off 1st Ave, Linden, or corner of Pitcairn Road and Penelope Avenue, Blairgowrie.

Zoo Lake, Parkview

This central feature in the area allows for safe walking in the fresh air. One lap of the lake is almost 1km.

Where: Off Jan Smuts Avenue, Parkview. Park by Moyo Restaurant (off Westwold Drive).

Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens, Roodepoort

A 300-hectare garden with hundreds of bird species including the Verreaux’s black eagle. Includes a 3.5km hiking trail.

Where: Malcolm Road, Roodepoort.
