Parkhurst based NPO needs assistance in keeping the less fortunate warm

PARKHURST – Local NPO needs assistance in keeping the less fortunate warm through the purchase of low cost thermal blankets

This winter, Bet On Better is focusing on the most vulnerable in our communities – displaced people, those who make our parks and streets their home.

Bet On Better is a non-profit organisation which was founded by Parkhurst resident Nanine Levitz, Soldatos Ari and Jack Phalane.
Their aim is to provide a platform for South Africa’s sporting stars to have an opportunity to compete internationally through fundraising campaigns. Due to the pandemic, the organisation has since widened its focus towards outreach work in South Africa.

Bet On Better is seeking help to purchase thermal blankets for these displaced people. The blanket folds up into a small square making it easier for its owner to store. The organisation’s target is to purchase 2 500 blankets and the community can contribute by sponsoring a blanket which costs R20.

“The response has been unbelievable as 100 blankets have already been purchased, a few were distributed and the happiness and appreciation was amazing,” said Levitz.

The community can support the initiative through two options. Option one is by purchasing a blanket which costs R20 a blanket, either online or at a shop. Option two involves community hours, so if children want to add to theirs, six blankets donated will equal one hour of community service.

The shop location is 74 St Andrew Street, Birdhaven. For more information contact Bet On Better on 083 676 6188.
