Journey through the life of beloved author Beatrix Potter

PARKTOWN – Peter Rabbit and Me will take place from August 22 to September 26 from Thursdays to Sundays with shows at 11:00 and 14:00.

The National Children’s Theatre (NCT) in Parktown invites community members to support their production of Peter Rabbit and Me.

The show takes audiences on a journey to discover how one of the most beloved children’s stories came to be written.

Join young Beatrix Potter and her brave brother as they each wish for something different to happen in their lives.

Beatrix is sad that her brother is being sent off to boarding school while she, a girl born in an upper class family in the 1800s, is stuck in the dreary nursery room with her governess.

Beatrix, being the resourceful child that she is, spends her time creating adventures for Peter and his family.

The play is directed by Ivor Jones, with set and costumes created by Sarah Roberts and music directed by Dale Scheepers. The cast includes Robyn Evans, Sandi Dlangalala, Marvin Molepo, Lesego Molotsi and Donae-Dalene Brazer.

CEO of the National Children’s Theatre Trust, Moira Katz said the cheerful family production was suitable for children aged three and up, appealing also to primary school children because it is about the life of Beatrix Potter and not just the story of Peter Rabbit.

Katz said the production showed how children, especially girls in wealthy families, were treated 100 years ago – not being allowed to attend school and being brought up to be ‘ladies’.

“It teaches us that no matter our circumstances, with a little imagination, we can meet challenges,” said Katz.

Peter Rabbit and Me will take place from August 22 to September 26 from Thursdays to Sundays with shows at 11:00 and 14:00.

Tickets are available through Quicket.
