Nora repaints 380 street names

NORWOOD – The Norwood Oaklands Residents Association successfully repaints more than 300 street names in the neighbourhood.

Norwood Oaklands Residents Association (Nora) repainted 380 street names in the area.

The condition of the painted street names have gradually been deteriorating over the years, making the neighbourhoods more difficult to navigate through.

“Maintenance of street signage has always been on Nora’s agenda as there were multiple street names that were totally illegible, and one would regularly be asked for directions by motorists,” said Brendan Lombard, treasurer of the association and overseer of the project.

The project is on-going and has been split into two phases. Phase 1 will be repainting only the street names that are illegible and phase 2 will focus on the maintenance of the balance of the signage. To date, the project has covered 26 streets throughout the area which includes Norwood, Oaklands, Orchards, The Gardens and Cheltondale.

The street names project proved to be very popular with the community and the association was pleased that other projects have also been well supported by residents. The projects are 100% funded by subscriptions or donations from Nora residents.

“It really is amazing what a difference a bit of paint can make. The feedback from our residents has been overwhelming. One gets a sense of ‘reignited pride’ together with the tangible output from funds received.”
