Orange Grove armed robber sentenced to 15 years in prison

NORWOOD – A man who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for armed robbery had two previous convictions.

Isaac Mahlalela (38), who was arrested by a local security company on the evening of June 27, 2019 in Orange Grove, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The accused appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of a business robbery. He allegedly gained entry into the business and came across employees who were working the night shift.
Mahlalela allegedly tied up his victims and proceeded to take various valuable items from the business and loaded these into the getaway vehicle with his two accomplices.
When the local security company officers arrived on the scene that evening, they saw him jumping over the wall and successfully apprehended him.
They recovered the stolen items. Various pieces of evidence were collected from the scene and handed over to the police.
Norwood Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Eric Masotsha said that after further investigation, they established that the accused had two previous convictions, including housebreaking and robbery, and common robbery.
Matsotsha concluded, “Three suspects were initially involved in this incident and the police are still searching for the other two.”
