Property’s power supply to be restored

CRAIGHALL PARK – The City entity had to install the temporary cable after a recent cable theft on the property.

City Power is in the process of conducting tests on a property’s supply line before installing a permanent connection.

The property, 120 Lancaster Avenue in Craighall Park, has had a ‘hanging cable’ for a while which a resident reportedly mistook for an illegal connection.

The resident who was taking a walk in the area on 18 June came across the cable and called the City Power Fraud Line which according to the resident was out of order but managed to contact the power utility via other means.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said their technicians went to the property and found out that the cable was a temporary connection that had been installed by the utility.

“There is no illegal connection found on the property. City Power technicians are currently in the process of installing a permanent cable connection but first, tests should be conducted on the supply line to ensure that all faults are cleared before a permanent connection can be done. The cable theft that has recently happened on the same line has been repaired and replaced,” Mangena added.

He said City Power urged communities to be equal partners in dealing with the scourge of cable theft.
“Residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious individuals working on our network to the nearest police station or neighbourhood watch. City Power always supports and appreciates community involvement in fighting cable theft.”

Mangena confirmed that the 080 000 2587 fraud line was managed by Group Forensic Investigative Service of the City of Johannesburg and it was working, however, the hotline service was currently in the process of being outsourced to a new service provider.

He encouraged residents to not only depend on the hotline to report cable theft and/or fraud but could also phone the following City Power Risk and Security numbers 24 hours a day for a quick response:
