Erosion project at Zoo Lake makes positive strides
PARKVIEW – Locals are urged to donate to help complete the final phases of the project.
Chairperson of the Zoo Lake Users Committee Fran Haslam is impressed to see the erosion project making great strides on the west side of Zoo Lake.
She said thanks to the gardening committee, generous donations from community members and a team of hard workers, they have completed a 250m stretch on the west side of the lake.
“Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we haven’t been able to complete the erosion project in the expected time frame. However, it’s a miracle to see the progress that has been made thus far. It has been a goal of mine to complete the erosion project since I joined the committee six years ago,” added Haslam.
She thanked community members for their donations of plants, the team from Chop-Em Tree Fellers for their donation of eight cubic metres of compost and six cubic metres of mulch, locals who donated funds to the project, the gardening committee for their leadership and oversight and City Parks for their assistance with labour and permissions.
Haslam said the next phase of the project would be to raise funds for paving and eco fencing on the west side.
She encouraged community members to volunteer their time or send a gardener to assist the team.
Haslam said in summer, the team hoped to complete the south side of the lake.
She also sent thanks to Parkview Residents Association, Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association, Forest Town Residents Association and generous donors from the community for their contributions to the eco fencing on the east side of the lake.
She also thanked erosion project manager Jacky Cresteil for getting the project off the ground and playing a huge part in making it happen.
“Without our committee, donations and hard workers, this would never have been done.”
