Community shows gratitude to pharmacy

PARKVIEW – Because of their generous nature, the community and their collaborative NGOs have stepped out to shower Tyrone Pharmacy with gratitude and praise.

Owners of a local pharmacy established in the 1940s in Parkview still ensure they offer accessible clinical services to the community.

A nominee in Sponsors of Brave: The Gratitude Season, Tyrone Pharmacy is co-owned by Kelly Robinson and Cheryl Kuit. Sponsors of Brave is a celebration of pharmacy frontline heroes during the global pandemic whereby nominated pharmacists, pharmacy assistants or a pharmacy stands a chance to win one of eight R5 000 cash prizes among many other prize opportunities.

Robinson said in the 1940s the pharmacy was called Tyrone Avenue Dispensary, and in 1999 she took over ownership of the business and in 2000 changed its name to Tyrone Pharmacy. The pharmacy’s motto is Take Good Care, which is a motto they strive to fulfil through supporting community initiatives.

“We offer a really accessible clinic service to our community, including reduced rates for domestic workers and low-income earners for doctor’s consultations and clinic screening services. Personalised, professional, hands on care, we build relationships with our customers and with our community. “We offer a delivery service so that patients can focus on getting better and not worry about looking for parking or standing in a queue,” Robinson said.

The pharmacy also participates in school fundraising events and blanket drives, provides free masks to those in need and supplies vitamins to their local old age home, Park Care Centre, and necessities for the local baby shelter, Princess Alice Adoption Home.

Beyond this, the pharmacy is dedicated to facilitating feeding schemes with vitamin-enriched meal supplements for some of their severely malnourished homeless community members. The pharmacy also regularly assists with projects in the pediatric health industry that aim to help underprivileged babies and children dealing with illness.

Regarding the nomination she said, “It’s seldom that pharmacists get recognised for the valuable role that they play in the healthcare system, and it is an honour to receive a nomination in the Sponsors of Brave: Gratitude Season.”

Robinson said during these Covid times she encouraged communities and each other, to take good care of themselves, their families and their communities.

Kuit added, “If we can all aspire to be good human beings, it can transform and uplift our lives, our communities and our country. Be brave, be a good human being and take good care.”

Kuit quoted Mother Teresa who said, ‘Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”
