Body of an unknown man found in Zoo Lake

PARKVIEW – Sibeko said the body was that of a man between the ages of 30 and 40.

The spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said that on 20 June at 9pm Parkview Saps discovered a body in Zoo Lake.

Sibeko said the body was that of a male between the ages of 30 and 40.

“The unidentified male has a head wound and has possibly been in the lake for an extended period due to his slight bloatedness and the decomposition of his extremities (hands),” said Sibeko.

She said that the identity of the deceased is currently unknown.

“Parkview police are investigating a case of inquest.”

Parkview police confirmed that a body was found in Zoo Lake on the morning of 21 June and an inquest docket had been opened in this regard.

News circulated on social media on 21 June from a runner who said they saw police retrieving a corpse from the lake which had apparently been bludgeoned on the head and had stab wounds to the body. According to the Facebook post, the runner claimed that the body had been in the water for a week.

Acting spokesperson for the Parkview Police Station, Colonel Fatima Gaffoor said the cause of death was unknown and confirmed that an inquest docket had been opened.
