Parkview police put children first

PARKVIEW – Police and CPF collaborate to observe Child Protection Week.

Child Protection Week is from 31 May until 6 June

This week is dedicated to raise awareness about child abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Sergeant Iris Phoko, the social crime prevention officer at Parkview police, will visit two children’s sanctuaries and schools for less fortunate children in the Parkview precinct. She will bring with her messages of support to the children and giving each child a gift.

“We do awareness campaigns at schools and day care centres to show them [children] that the police care and love them,” said Phoko.

“I urge parents and the community at large to take care of children and to make sure that they are protected at all times.”

The theme for this year’s week is Putting Children First and Phoko will also visit Hope School that cares for physically challenged children and Guild Cottage, a safe haven for girls who have been sexually abused.

Parkview Community Policing Forum will work with the police on this initiative and is appealing to residents in the precinct and surrounds to help raise R7 200 which will be used to purchase gifts for the children.

If you would like to make a donation towards the initiative you can contact Geraldine Connell of the Parkview forum on 082 413 1431, chair@parkviewcpf.co.za or www.parkviewcpf.co.za
