School collects food and clothing for neighbouring home for girls

PARKTOWN – Ceprnich said the food drive focused on non-perishable items and girls' clothing. The school managed to fill the school bakkie with donations, which were well-received by the home.

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) hosted a successful Going for Guild Food Drive in aid of Guild Cottage.

Marketing manager at the school Savo Ceprnich said that for the second year in a row, the annual Schulbasar was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Following a week-long food drive for the neighbouring home for sexually abused girls, the school also hosted a Bewegungs Challenge (virtual run fundraiser) where people could exercise virtually and make a pledge to raise funds for outdoor seating for DSJ learners.

Ceprnich said the food drive focused on non-perishable items and girls’ clothing. The school managed to fill the school bakkie with donations, which were well-received by the home.

“There has been a lot of hardship caused by Covid-19 and this hardship has also hit many members of our own community. Despite this, the DSJ community really rallied for this wonderful cause,” said Ceprnich.

The school also raised R20 000 in pledges from the Bewegungs Challenge, which will go towards outdoor seating at the Parktown-based school.
