Bring a smile to a child’s face this Youth Day

ILLOVO – The foundation aims to address the medical backlogs in the public healthcare system through the event proceeds.

The Smile Foundation, based in Hyde Park, invites community members to join a yoga class on Youth Day (June 16) in an effort to help them fundraise.

The Foundation has partnered with the Imperial Wanderers Stadium and Planet Fitness to host a yoga class on the field at the stadium in Illovo between 9:30 and 10:30. Participants will be spaced out in line with Covid-19 protocols into two-metre squares from where they will take part in the class. A Planet Fitness instructor will conduct the class.

The class costs R120 per person with all proceeds going to the foundation in their efforts to assist with the medical backlogs in the public healthcare system.

The foundation works to assist in corrective reconstructive surgeries for children suffering from facial abnormalities such as cleft lip and palate, burn victims, moebius syndrome (facial paralysis) and other conditions, many of which were put on hold during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Locals are also invited to join the live stream of two athletes, Temotio Jacopo and Steve Saunders, who will take on a biathlon which includes a 100km cycle and 21km run in aid of the Foundation.

A Directors Challenge will form part of the biathlon event, encouraging directors of various organisations to take part in a segment of the event alongside the athletes. The foundation has five slots available for companies to join in and take up the challenge.

Locals are also invited to donate to the foundation’s work while streaming the biathlon from the comfort of their homes.
