DSJ highlights achievements of karate learners

PARKTOWN – The siblings have both achieved black belts in karate recently.

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg (DSJ) is proud of the karate achievements of learners Sven and Thea Langenhorst.

Grade 12 learner Sven has achieved significant advancements in karate over the last six months.

In December last year, Sven was awarded an adult black belt. He also qualified as a national all styles karate judge for Karate South Africa, where he has since participated in that capacity at a number of recent competitions while still competing as an athlete at those same events. He was also awarded a bronze medal for kumite at the recent SA Nationals Competition.

He is currently ranked number four in South Africa in his age and weight category for kumite.

Thea, who is in Grade 10 at DSJ, continues to shine in her karate achievements, having been awarded the Cadet Shodan Black Belt in December last year. She also achieved a silver medal in kata at the recent SA Nationals Competition. Her unison team also dominated their age group, again achieving a gold medal.

Thea is ranked as the number one cadet female for kata – a ranking she has held for three consecutive years.

Marketing manager at the school Savo Ceprnich said, “The DSJ is extremely proud of what Sven and Thea achieved in the past six months.”

“Covid-19 has taken its toll on many people but having a healthy and active mind helps overcome the stresses of the current situation,” added Ceprnich.
