Programme encourages youths to be entrepreneurs

HOUGHTON – Through a one-year learnership, the youths will be taught how to start enterprises of their own.

A long-established listed corporate, Hudaco Industries, in partnership with ORT SA, brought to life a programme that centres itself around the subject of entrepreneurship.

According to ORT SA marketing team liaison, Milani Falitenjwa, this programme started on 1 November last year and will be ending on 30 October this year.

“The sole purpose of this one-year leadership is to educate the youth from impoverished communities on how to start enterprises of their own. What is intriguing about this programme is that it focuses not only on able-bodied youth but also on disabled youth,” said Falitenjwa.

He added that on 17 February, ORT SA management embarked on a journey to meet the youth in Ennerdale. CEO of ORT SA, Ariellah Rosenberg said to the youth regarding the subject of entrepreneurship, “It’s not about how much money you have in the bank, it’s about how much education and skills you can accumulate, this is what will differentiate you from others.”

Head of Skills Academy for ORT SA, Ian Jacob had this to say to the youth about maintaining confidence in the corporate space, “Whatever occupation it is, you need to be able to sell yourself.”

Falitenjwa quoted singer Kailash Kher when he said, “A man with a silver spoon may get his share of supporters, but he can never be an inspiration for somebody! Patience and hard work are the key to every man’s success.”
He concluded that this programme has personified the statement mentioned above because it imparts knowledge to the youth and changes society.
