Magic of movement

DUNKELD – A local dance studio provided the platform for dance enthusiasts to participate in Nia.

A dance studio in Dunkeld has recently completed a prestigious course.

Black belt Nia instructor and white belt trainer as well as the founder of Nia Technique at Studio Kairos in Dunkeld, Susan Sloan said that from 8 to 14 May they held a white belt training at the studio.

Sloan described Nia as a dance art and way of living that embraces the body’s natural way of moving to enhance flexibility, mobility, agility and creativity. Nia uses a combination of dance arts, martial arts and healing arts to create complete body awareness and thus focused well-being. “It is a fitness field suitable for any age or fitness level that uses dynamic ease, moving with intent and most importantly, it’s fun! I sometimes like to refer to it as ‘joyful dance with kindness to the body’.

“Regardless of age, our bodies are holding increasingly more stress from our demanding lifestyles. Nia teaches the power of being present and the magic of movement whether it is to heal an ailment or just get dancing for fun!”

Sloan shared that at the training course, eight participants spent an average of 10 hours a day together, training their bodies and minds. She added that the trainees really became a family who encouraged and supported each other every step of the way during the intense but life-changing week.

One of the graduates, actress Michelle Botes, said, “I felt the rhythm in my bones again and in my blood a secret joyous flow of all the woman (and women) I am! I find that the incredible music combined with the nine movement forms of Nia straightens out the kinks in my brain and my heart.”

Sloan announced that the next white belt training is over the last two weekends in August and a great experience for those who want to invest in themselves and live to their full potential.
