Community urged to support the maintenance of Hugh Wyndham Park

DUNKELD WEST – Regular park users are encouraged to donate to the upgrade and maintenance of the park.

The Friends of Hugh Wyndham Park Committee supported by the Craigpark Residents Association are pleased to see the park in Dunkeld being used by the community.

Chair of the Friends of Hugh Wyndham Park, Fran Swart said the committee began their work to take back the park five years ago.

“It’s so good to see the park being used again by people in the community. We have adopted the park and developed a good relationship with City Parks to undertake various upgrades to the park,” added Swart.

She said most afternoons the park was brimming with nannies and children, walkers, runners, netball players, dog walkers and people having picnics.

Swart was pleased to have a few regular supporters who assisted with monthly donations for the park to be adequately maintained and upgraded. She thanked local resident Greg Wilson of Reflex Solutions for his generous contributions as well as many others.

Head of marketing on the Friends of Hugh Wyndham Park Committee, Suzanne Poorter listed a few of the upgrades that the committee hoped to bring to fruition in the coming months. These included the repair and repainting of perimeter fencing, the installation of a community blackboard on the substation, the creation of an eco-friendly 1km walking track, the installation of plaques on trees to educate the community about the variety of tree species in the park, the installation of a small library and more. All the upgrades are subject to approval by City Parks and donations from the community. [Layout: put in block form]

Swart said while she was pleased to see some regular donations from users, more was needed to keep the park in good shape.

“It is so rewarding to see the park full again and well-used by people from all sectors of society. I feel like, as a resident, I have taken ownership of the park and am proud of it.”

She also thanked Ward 90 councillor, Martin Williams, for his support through his involvement in the association.
