Working together for the greater good

PARKVIEW – The initial target set was 500 blankets but the association and churches in collaboration with Parkview residents, local businesses and schools have collected close to 800 blankets and the target has now been set to 1 000.

St Columba’s Presbyterian Church, St Francis of Assisi Anglican Church and Parkview Residents Association have put together a community blanket drive to keep the less fortunate warm this winter.

The drive is taking place from 10 to 31 May and is aimed at providing warm blankets to beneficiaries of St Columba’s and St Francis’ feeding schemes.

The initial target set was 500 blankets but the association and churches in collaboration with Parkview residents, local businesses and schools have collected close to 800 blankets and the target has now been set to 1 000.

“A single blanket costs R80 thanks to a deal struck by Rotary with the factory, which is nearly R30 cheaper than buying an equivalent blanket from a store,” said Caryl Kelly, marketing and communications director of the association.

Provision will also be made to donate blankets to other organisations in the area and the city such as Mes Impilo, an overnight shelter for displaced people situated in Jeppestown.

“The project would welcome any donation, however small,” added Kelly.

Residents who would like to make donations towards the campaign can do so by dropping them off at either St Columba’s or St Francis churches at the addresses below for the duration of the campaign.
