HAVE YOUR SAY: Social gatherings: A risk or not?

JOHANNESBURG – The Rosebank Killarney Gazette asked residents if they are comfortable with attending social gatherings at the current stage of the pandemic and this is what they had to say.

With the current state of the coronavirus lockdown in South Africa and a third wave looming, the Rosebank Killarney Gazette asked residents if they are comfortable with attending social gatherings at the current stage of the pandemic and this is what they had to say:

NOLOMHLE MOLEFE: I feel like it’s a risk for everyone, people who are attending social gatherings are risking their lives because social events are superspreaders.
ANDREW PRASAG: At the moment I’m not attending any events or social gatherings because I don’t think the precautionary measures are 100 per cent accurate.
MIRKO CASTELLANI: As a business owner I feel like it is safe because we are following the necessary measures like sanitising our premises and following all precautions to make sure the virus doesn’t spread.
SADDIYA FARRATH: I don’t think it’s safe to be attending social gatherings unless there’s a limited number of people there. The only social events I have attended so far are those where I know there’s a limited number of people.
SHAYLIN GROTTIS: I have attended social events like family functions and gatherings because I know that none of my family members have had the virus as of yet and I am very responsible when it comes to taking precautions and procedures to avoid contracting it.
MLULEKI NDAMANE: I don’t think attending social events is a risk as it was before because the number of deaths has decreased and the vaccine is here. Events are some people’s livelihood as well.
