Bramley police pleased to see two criminals convicted and sentenced

BRAMLEY – Mogodi said that apart from serving as a deterrent to others, he hopes the convictions will serve to restore community trust in the justice system.

Bramley police were pleased about the recent sentencing of two criminals who had committed crimes in the area.

A spokesperson for the Bramley Police Station Captain Molefe Mogodi said, “Bramley detectives have sent out a clear message to would-be criminals that crime does not pay.”

Two suspects were convicted by local magistrates’ courts in relation to two separate incidents.

On 5 August 2019, a victim was robbed of his belongings while stationary at a red traffic light in Marlboro Gardens.

“The complainant was held at gunpoint by the accused who was later known as Mangoba Mthembu,” said Mogodi, who added that the accused was arrested not far from the crime scene by Metro police shortly after committing the crime.

“He has since been in prison until he was found guilty for the charge of armed robbery by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.”

Mthembu was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment on 21 April this year.

In a separate incident, 25-year-old John Sithole was convicted in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for a crime committed on 6 April this year.

“The court found the accused had broken into a local butchery and helped himself to meat and goods.” He added that the suspect was traced to Alexandra where he was arrested.

Mogodi said the stolen goods were also found in the room where the accused was residing.

Sithole was found guilty and sentenced to three years direct imprisonment on 9 April.

Mogodi and station management applauded the detectives for putting the criminals behind bars.

“Our message to criminals is that they will soon be caught and will face the full might of the law.”

Mogodi said apart from serving as a deterrent to others, it would serve to restore the community’s trust in the justice system.

“We also wish to thank the witnesses for availing themselves whenever they were called upon by the detectives.”
