Zoo Lake rejoices after the completion of the first six phases of the erosion project
PARKVIEW – The committee still needs assistance from community members to extend the project around the full circumference of the lake.
The Zoo Lake Users Committee is pleased to see the completion of the first six phases of the erosion project in the green lung of the neighbourhood.
Chairperson of the Zoo Lake Users Committee Fran Haslam said she was grateful for the support of residents of Saxonwold, Parkview and Forest Town, and local residents associations who have donated and contributed to making space an oasis and brought about a beautiful transformation of the lake.
About 220m of soil, compost, plants and paving have now been put in place, beautifying the once desert space that was eroding fast.
Haslam added that they were in the process of installing colonial fencing across the renovated section of the lake.
“I feel elated and overwhelmed when I visit this space. I can’t believe the transformation,” said Haslam.
The next phase of the project is to start replicating the project on the west side along Lower Park Drive.
“We need compost, soil, plants and volunteers or gardeners to assist us. Regrettably, we cannot have any action days while we are still on Level 1.”
Haslam also wants to install an honours board remembering the work of all who have contributed to the project and showcasing before and after photographs.
“We need donations of signage and design support.”
