Arrive alive this Easter

BRAMLEY – Residents who feel threatened or would like to report violence can contact Sambo directly on 082 552 4865

The social crime coordinator at the Bramley Police Station Constable Tsakani Sambo has urged residents to avoid conflict this Easter holiday.

“There is a lot of gender-based violence that takes place over Easter each year. People get into fights at pubs, taverns, shebeens and parks and end up killing each other,” said Sambo.

“Let’s stay home and follow all Covid-19 protocols, sanitise and wear masks.”

Sambo added that stabbings and shootings often took place over petty arguments when alcohol was involved.

“Ensure that there is security at the tavern that you visit and ensure that security are confiscating all weapons, licensed or not, when you enter the venue.

“If you suspect someone or see something suspicious, report it to security and they will contact the police.”

“Don’t drink and drive this Easter.”

Sambo advised community members to report any signs of abuse in homes.

“We want to prevent violence before it takes place. If you are a man with this problem, police can refer you to a relevant counsellor, social worker, NGO or pastor to assist.”
