Parktown academic achievers are celebrated

PARKVIEW – Parktown Girls is proud of their academic and all-round achievers who were recognised at an awards evening on 4 March.

Parktown High School for Girls honoured their top academic achievers for the 2020 academic year at an awards evening on 4 March.

The school was pleased to award the highest accolade – an honours blazer – to matric learner Ammaarah Cachalia. The honours blazer is awarded to learners who achieve full colours in three different areas of the school. In Ammaarah’s case, these included culture (debating), leadership and academics.

The marketing and communications manager at the school Kerry Liss said, “Congratulations Ammaarah, this is an outstanding achievement and we are very proud of you.”

The school also awarded academic scrolls, half and full colours to learners who excelled in the 2020 academic year. “These girls worked exceptionally hard, despite difficult circumstances, to achieve these results and we are very proud of all of them.”

Special congratulations go to the top learner in each grade: Rebecca Leisegang (Grade 8), Christina Vaudran (Grade 9), Husna Badat (Grade 10) and Aamena Patel (Grade 11).

Special awards went to the following learners:

  • The Di van Zyl trophy was awarded to exceptional sportswoman Georgia Shear (Grade 11 in 2020) who has also achieved an academic average of 70 per cent or above and participated with a spirit of service and is a good Parktown role model
  • The Angela Simpson trophy was awarded to Tashriq Elmedany (Grade 10 in 2020), who participates enthusiastically in the extramural programme, has maintained an academic average of 70 per cent or more and participates with a spirit of service and is a good Parktown role model
  • The Pam Quin trophy was awarded to Nceba Hlongwane (Grade 11 learner in 2020) who participates enthusiastically in the cultural programme, has maintained an average of 70 per cent and above and participates with a spirit of service and is a good Parktown role model.
