Norwood Saps arrest two suspects for bribery

NORWOOD – Masotsha pleads with community members to refrain from bribing the police.

Norwood police arrested two suspects on 26 February for allegedly bribing police officers.

A spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said two men arrived at Norwood police to visit their four friends who had been arrested for possession of presumed stolen motor vehicles.

“On arrival, both suspects were told that there is no visiting of any arrested suspects due to Disaster Management Act regulations,” said Masotsha.

He added that the men then asked to talk to the arresting officers about the case.
While speaking to the officers, to their surprise, the suspects offered the officers R10 000 in cash for the release of their friends.

The officers asked the men if they understood that what they were doing was a crime punishable by law.

Masotsha said both men were arrested and the cash that was offered to the officers was counted in front of them and sealed in a forensic bag as evidence.

Masotsha urged community members to refrain from bribing the police because it promoted crime.

“The suspects will soon appear before a court of law to answer to charges of bribery.”
