Golf day aims to raise R250 000 for South African Bone Marrow Registry

HOUGHTON – All proceeds from the event will be put towards SABMR’s Patient Assistance Programme.

South African Bone Marrow Registry will host a fundraising golf day at Houghton Golf Club on 31 March.

As a result of the ban on many physical events last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the registry has struggled to raise funds.

They rely heavily on donations from the public and corporates to continue the life-saving work that they do. The organisation is hoping to make up for the lost income this year by appealing to the public for funds.

All proceeds from the golf event will be put towards the registry’s Patient Assistance Programme which provides financial support to families who cannot afford the cost of finding a suitable donor for their bone marrow transplants.

Only 80 spots are available and tee-off will be at 12 noon. Twenty, four-balls have been made available at a cost of R5 000 per team including drinks on arrival, lunch, watering holes, a three-course dinner, an auction, a goodie bag and prizegiving.

Actor and long-time supporter of the registry Frank Rautenbach will play at the event and take on the duties of emcee for the auction. Some items up for grabs at the auction will include sports memorabilia, exclusive holidays, lifestyle vouchers and hampers.

The registry aims to raise R250 000 through the event.

The closing date for entries is 26 March.
