Norwood crime prevention team nab three suspects

NORWOOD – All three suspects failed to give a valid explanation of why they had the items in their possession.

Norwood police arrested three suspects for the alleged possession of stolen property, and possession of car break-in and housebreaking implements.

Spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said on 13 February at about 5pm, members of the Norwood Crime Prevention team including Sergeant Thabo Mampa and Sergeant Nicolas Mello spotted a very suspicious white Toyota Etios with a known registration number while they were performing their regular patrols along Louis Botha Avenue in Orange Grove.

The members identified themselves to all the occupants of the vehicle and asked to search them.

Masotsha added that the members found a crowbar, heavy-duty drop forged jaws 24-inch wrench, sewing machine, two disk grinding wheels, socket spanner and an Allen key used to open any car by breaking the locks, in the vehicle.

“All three suspects failed to give a valid explanation as to why they had the items in their car. All suspects were arrested and will appear before the court of law in due course,” said Masotsha.

Head of the Crime Prevention Unit at Norwood police Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Makola applauded his members on a job well done.
