Arrested suspect spills the beans on accomplice gardener

ROUXVILLE – This after an arrested suspect revealed to the police that the gardener had a hand in planning the house robbery.

Two suspects were arrested and a third was shot dead during a robbery at a home in Rouxville, Norwood.

Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha confirmed that one of the arrested suspects was the gardener who worked at the house.

“On 13 February, at about 10am, a complaint about a house robbery was dispatched from SAPS Reaction Channel [10111] in Rouxville Norwood precinct. When Saps members arrived at the scene, two security officers explained to the police that two suspects entered the house, tied up the victim and stole items from the house. The suspects were then cornered and they held the house owner hostage at gunpoint. Shooting then erupted and one suspect was shot and died on the scene,” said Masotsha.

He added that one firearm was recovered and after officers interrogated one of the suspects, he confessed that they had planned the house robbery with the gardener.

According to Masotsha, the gardener’s cell phone number was linked with that of the arrested suspect.

“The police also appreciates the swift response from one of the active private security companies in rescuing the family whose member was held hostage at gunpoint.

“The arrested suspects will appear before a court of law soon charged with house robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition. We as the police continue to encourage our loyal community, if you have a gardener it is wise to ask them to produce their police clearance or you may go with them to any nearest police station for a profile before offering them a job.”
