Close to three years and some issues have not been sorted by the Johannesburg Roads Agency

WARD 72 – The JRA is yet to respond to queries two weeks on.

On behalf of residents in his ward (72), councillor Lionel Greenberg has taken up outstanding issues with the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

In an email sent to the agency, as well as the City manager, the councillor wrote, “JRA has failed to honour the service level agreement between yourselves and the City of Johannesburg. Many issues remain outstanding in Ward 72 for over a year and some issues have not been attended to as long as two and a half years.

“Simply residents are gatvol with JRA’s poor service delivery and lack of preventive maintenance. Ward 72 residents pay rates and the least that can be expected is service.”

He claimed that furthermore when work was done, the workmanship was shocking. The councillor alleged that the poor work ethic was probably because there was zero accountability and zero consequences.

Greenberg mentioned some of the outstanding issues which included Linksfield Primary School and a drain that was not cleared before slabs were installed in Sydenham.

“JRA is aware of all the issues in Ward 72. Worst of all JRA has been happy to take their full salaries but have zero consciences that minimal work has been done. Despite minimal service delivery for the better part of 2020, staff could not find it in themselves to deliver with distinction.

“If this is the level of workmanship that management is going to accept, it is with regret to advise JRA that I must formally bring this to the attention of the City manager and other stakeholders. Kindly advise me a date when all outstanding work will be completed in Ward 72 and that this and other poor workmanship will be resolved.”

On behalf of Linksfield Primary School, administration secretary Jean de Wal said, “We can confirm that there was a huge hole in front of the main pedestrian gate at the school, corner Club and Kloof roads, for well over a year. They [JRA] repaired a huge water leak and then just left everything. “The day school closed they came to fix the pavement and it is a terrible job. We also have continuous problems in Tregoning Road regarding a huge and dangerous hole where they yet again tried to repair their so-called work. It is ongoing.”

The JRA was contacted for comment and the agency acknowledged receipt of our queries but had still not responded two weeks later.
