St John’s College Class of 2020 achieves outstanding results

HOUGHTON – Executive headmaster Stuart West said the matric class drew heavily on their developed resilience, disciplined work ethic and confidence to problem solve on their own to achieve excellent results.

The St John’s College Class of 2020 has produced an exceptional set of results despite a trying year.

The school celebrated a 100 per cent matric pass rate with nearly 98 per cent of the class achieving Bachelor’s Degree passes.

The 126 matric learners achieved a total of 357 distinctions between them.

“We salute the matric Class of 2020 on truly outstanding results in the IEB examinations,” he said.
“We celebrate another year in the legacy of academic excellence at St John’s College. We are proud of what the class has achieved in its matric year and how each boy has grown, and we believe they are excellently equipped to work independently and successfully at tertiary level.”

Seven learners out of the matric class achieved an average of at least 90 per cent while 46 boys achieved an average of at least 80 per cent (more than a third of the matric class). Six or more distinctions were achieved by 22 per cent of the class.

Learners also achieved excellent results in the mathematics exam, with nearly 80 per cent of learners who wrote the exam achieving more than 65 per cent and nearly half the class achieving a distinction.

Learners also performed well in physical sciences (with nearly a third achieving 80 per cent or more), English (with 99 per cent of learners achieving at least 60 per cent) and information technology (with more than two-thirds of the class achieving a distinction).
West said it had been an honour working with these young men.

“They are a credit to the school and we thank them for the contribution they have made in the classroom, on the sports field and in every sphere of St John’s life. We look forward to welcoming each of them to the Old Johannian Association so that their achievements may grow into a legacy for all who come after them.”

  • Kei Prior (average of 94.1 per cent with nine distinctions)
  • Gustav Kruger (average of 91.3 per cent and eight distinctions)
  • Taylor Williamson (average of 90 per cent and nine distinctions)
  • Cameron Quiding (average of 90.6 per cent and seven distinctions)
  • Gregory Thompson (average of 90.4 per cent and nine distinctions)
  • Joshua van Zyl (average of 88.9 per cent and eight distinctions)
  • Zaid Essop (average of 88.4 per cent and eight distinctions)
