Norwood police arrest three suspects believed to be involved in car theft syndicate

MELROSE – The suspects were found to be in possession of signal jamming devices, car break-in implements and a number of other possessions.

Norwood police were pleased to arrest three wanted suspects on 5 February.

The suspects were found to be in possession of implements used to break into vehicles and signal jamming devices in Melrose.

Spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station, Sergeant Eric Masotsha confirmed that a special unit was investigating the syndicate of suspects who had been stealing cars in the Norwood area. The unit also identified the cars which were used by the suspects.

Masotsha said officers spotted one of the suspect’s cars, finding it parked at a garage in Melrose with three occupants inside.

Police approached the occupants and asked to search the vehicle, and discovered the following items in the car: signal jamming devices consisting of 18 channels, car break-in implements, pairs of hand gloves, face masks, safety glasses, sockets, screws, knives, bundles of different car keys, green overalls, double ignitions, a computer, boxes, torches, Allen keys, screwdrivers, 12-volt power cables and cell phones.

Masotsha said all the suspects were arrested and would appear in court in due course. The suspects’ car was impounded and the other exhibits were booked in as evidence before the court.

Station Commander for the Norwood Police Station, Colonel Phetole Mahasha welcomed the arrest as a relief to residents in the Norwood area. Mahasha said the concern of the community was always also the concern of the police.
