Iconic singer and songwriter Cindy Alter has just released her latest single Last One Standing.
A Norwood resident, Alter released this single as part of her definitive collection, Essential Collection – Last One Standing. It features 15 songs from her musical journey spanning more than 40 years.
Available on all digital platforms, she said the inspiration for the song came from the crazy time the world was in.
“I wrote this song a little while ago, I think about two years ago when I was feeling like the world is in a crazy place. I think at the time I felt people needed validation and inspiration.”
Fast-forward to 2021, the song has never been more fitting.
“I called it Last One Standing to sort of show people ‘Hey, I’m still here and everything will be ok.’ I want people to know that we will make it through. With this single, I will have comfort in knowing that I can look over my shoulder and see that everything was done in love.”
She said the lyrics of the song resonated with a lot of people especially during this time.
“I want them to feel like there is still some hope you know. I wrote it before the pandemic and it is so relevant now in this new way of life.”
Living the rock-star life, Alter was the lead singer for world-renowned pop band Clout and SA’s first-ever multi-racial Afro-pop band Zia. Selling out concert halls, surviving cancer, opening for the Bee Gees and being named one of the country’s biggest selling artists of all time, Alter has done it all.
Now at 63 years old, she wants to continue to advocate for all the good in the world.
At the moment she has an online TV chat show. Where are they now?
“I interview older artists from way back when and catch up with them. I am going across the board so it is a very big project for me. “Basically all I am doing is reminding people of the good old days. It’s live every Tuesday at 7pm on Discovery TV on YouTube.”
Excited about her body of work, Alter said she was grateful for all the support and loyalty from her fans over the years. A powerhouse in the industry, she would like to inspire her fans even more.
“I have some new fans now which is so amazing. I just want to say that we are one. Everyone is feeling something about what is happening here today. Own your truth, look after yourself, if you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of anyone else. I think this year is really for more self-care and self-worth.”
