Parkview police arrested two suspects for armed robbery and possession of suspected stolen property on 24 January.
According to Parkview Police Station Commander Colonel Theledi Gopane, it is alleged that the complainant was walking in Craighall Park when a white Kia stopped next to her. One suspect got out the car and pointed a firearm at the victim demanding her cell phone. The victim refused to surrender her phone.
According to Gopane, the complainant was assaulted and robbed of her cell phone before fleeing the scene. The complainant identified the vehicle as well as the registration number. The vehicle was spotted 10 minutes later by police in the Rosebank area where a chase ensued.
“The vehicle was eventually stopped in the Norwood area. Two suspects aged 40 and 53 were arrested. The suspects were found in possession of false registration numbers, two cell phones, a Tag Heuer watch and a jamming device,” said Gopane.
Parkview police pleaded with anyone within the Parkview policing precinct who had been robbed by the suspects driving in a white Kia to come forward.
“The suspects will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 26 January to answer to charges of armed robbery and possession of the suspected stolen property.”
Gopane would like to commend the police, Metro police and CAP Security members for their swift response in arresting the suspects.
