Norwood crime prevention team secures arrest

HOUGHTON – Norwood station management was pleased with the arrest as the area was known to be a hotspot for illegal substances.

Norwood police arrested a 24-year-old suspect for possession of drugs on 22 January at about 6.45pm.

Spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station Sergeant Eric Masotsha said, “The Norwood crime prevention members were doing their routine patrols at the corner of Glenhove Road and Central Street in Houghton when they stopped a suspect.”

He added that the police identified themselves to the suspect and asked to search him.

One of the officers proceeded to search the suspect while two others observed. They found nine packets of drugs known as ‘the rock’.

Norwood station management was pleased with the arrest as the area was known to be a hotspot for illegal substances.

Masotsha said the arrest served to motivate crime prevention members, showing the importance of stop and search patrols.

“The suspect will appear in court during the course of the week.

“To members of the public, let’s keep working together to keep giving the police any kind of information that could lead to a breakthrough.”
