R10 000 raised by shoppers at local shopping centre for Rays Of Hope

HYDE PARK – Hyde Park Corner and Rays of Hope partner to uplift the community.

It was a happy, socially distanced affair at Hyde Park Corner on 22 January. Celebrating the wins, non-profit organisation Rays of Hope received a large donation from the centre as part of their festive season campaign.

Marketing manager Noma Zulu shared with us the inspiration behind it.

“With this donation, it’s actually from our customers. They were encouraged to donate and wrap their gifts at our two gift-wrapping stations that we had in the centre.”

Zulu said that they raised R10 000 all thanks to the Hyde Park Centre shoppers.

“A big congratulations and thank you needs to be given to our shoppers and tenants out of the goodness of their hearts,” she said.

All proceeds will go to the Rays of Hope organisation as well as help pay staff from the VIP parking initiative.

“We wanted to make a long-term impact, especially, in the community of Alexandra. The VIP parking initiative is one of the main projects we have currently with Rays of Hope, helping to employ and uplift people who are part of the organisation is a great feeling.”

With a partnership spanning over six years, CEO of the organisation Sihle Mooi said that it has been incredible. “This is an example to show that Sandton and Alex can partner in ways that are not one sided but can be mutually beneficial.

“Their contribution helps the most vulnerable youth in Alex receive work, some benefit from education and even feeding programmes.”

Zulu mentioned that with the centre being a focal point in the community for over 50 years, it is important to take care of those around.

We can look forward to a number of great initiatives with the centre and Rays of Hope throughout the year.
