WATCH: Bus drives passed stranded motorist as roads flood around Zoo Lake

Never try to drive through a puddle or under a low bridge during rainy conditions.

As the City of Joburg prepares for yet another rainy week, roads are flooding across Joburg North on 1 February.

A motorist who took the video below said vehicles are getting stuck while attempting to make their way through the flooded parts of the road. It seems as if some of the roads at the bottom of Zoo Lake near the sports club are most affected.

CAP and other security vehicles arrived to assist a motorist who was stuck in a deep pool of water on Lower Park Drive in Parkview.

Tips when driving in wet weather:

  1. Decrease your speed: The roads are wet and slippery, so it is common sense to slow down. There is no rush, it is better to be safe than sorry.
  2. Keep your headlights on and check your brakes: When driving in wet weather, your headlights must be on to make visible on the roads is clearer and to alert other drivers. Make sure your brakes are in good condition so you can react fast to any situation that may occur.
  3. Five-second distance rule: Ensure that there is a generous space between you and the car in front of you, particularly in wet conditions. Your hazards should also be on if visibility is poor.
  4. Windscreen wipers should be in good condition: When driving in rainy weather, your wipers are important to avoid any obstruction of your view.
  5.  Be observant: Be careful of flowing water and low water bridges. If you don’t know how deep the water is, do not take a chance thinking you can drive through. Rather stay put or pull over a garage or closed parking space.
