15-year-old Emmarentia girl raped by her step-father’s friend

EMMARENTIA – It was alleged that it wasn't the first time this girl had been raped by the suspect.

Police arrest man for alleged rape of his friend’s step-daughter.

Parkview Police Station recently arrested a 32-year-old male for having allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl in Emmarentia on 18 January 2021.

According to the station’s spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, the incident had allegedly taken place when the victim’s mother left for work leaving her with her siblings and step-father.
Sibeko explained, “The mother arrived home from work and she was informed by her partner that the victim was found crying, however, she refused to explain why she was crying.”

The matter was finally uncovered when the child’s biological father reported the matter to Parkview police after being informed by his daughter that she was raped by the step-father’s friend.

Later that evening, Parkview police arrived at the residence and it was established that the step-father was not at home when the incident happened and that it allegedly was not the first time that the suspect had raped the victim. Sibeko added, “It was found that he had raped her last year in September 2020 and out of fear of the suspect the victim did not report the matter.”
A case of rape was then opened by the victim’s mother and the victim was taken to hospital for medical examination. The mother of the victim opened a case of rape and the victim was taken to hospital for medical examination.

Parkview police traced the suspect and he was arrested and charged. The case has since then been transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit of the police service for further investigation.

The suspect will appear in court soon to answer on charges of rape.
The Station Commander of Parkview SAPS Colonel Theledi Gopane has welcomed the arrest and further said that the police remain committed to upholding the rights of victims of gender-based violence and to ensure that perpetrators are hunted down and arrested.
