Be responsible when enjoying Zoo Lake this festive season

Please leave the park by sunset and whatever you pack out, pack back to take home.

Community members are encouraged to be responsible and follow the Covid-19 regulations when enjoying Zoo Lake this festive season.

Chairperson of the Zoo Lake Users Group Fran Haslam said users should respect the rights of fellow park users, adhere to the public open spaces by-laws by refraining from littering, consuming alcohol and limiting the use of braais to the designated braai area.

“No car-boot parties or loud music are permitted. Please leave the park by sunset and whatever you pack out, pack back to take home. Please leave our park clean and green,” said Haslam.

She highlighted the success of the erosion project, the repair of the coronation fountain, the establishment of the gardening committee and the upcoming upgrade of the children’s play park as the successes of 2020.

“Our greatest challenge for the year so far has been the Covid-19 pandemic. We have been unable to complete our projects, funding has stopped and without the support of the community assisting us financially and without our volunteer days, we have been unable to complete our proposed projects.”

Haslam said the group has a number of exciting new projects planned to uplift and upgrade Zoo Lake in 2021.

“We wish all the users of Zoo Lake a safe and happy holiday season and hope that 2021 will be a healthy, prosperous and successful year. We would like to thank everyone for their support during the 2020 year.”
